The other night I had a peak experience
at Disney Hall
with Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax
two of the greatest living musicians
at the Top of their Game
playing gorgeous romantic music
by Schumann and Chopin.
Flawless
Flowing
Perfectly in sync with the music and each other
as if they were one being
Not only was it beautiful music
they each had total control of their instruments:
precision
no wasted motion
contour of phrase
dynamic clarity
After spending two hours sitting at the feet of these Masters
I felt awe
I felt honored to be there
And then they came back to play an encore
that was such a gem
everyone in the hall finally became still
and there was that magical moment of silence
when the music sings out until it fades
and the crystal silence takes over...
I was at peace, complete.
